Music Victoria announces its next Chief Executive Officer, industry champion, Fiona Duncan

Music Victoria's Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Fiona Duncan as the peak body's next Chief Executive Officer. Fiona Duncan (she/her) brings over three decades of music industry expertise to the role, rightly positioning her to lead Victoria's peak contemporary music industry body into its transformative next chapter.
 
Fiona’s extensive career and background spans numerous parts of the industry. It is her experience and vision for the future of Music Victoria and Victoria’s live music ecosystem that cemented her as the choice candidate to advocate for and support the state's diverse music community.
 
This appointment comes at a crucial time for Music Victoria and the Victorian live music sector at large.

Fiona Duncan will commence as the next CEO of Music Victoria on Tuesday 25 March 2025.

The Music Victoria Board of Directors would also like to acknowledge and thank Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO) General Manager, Kirsty Rivers, for her fantastic support and leadership of the organisation as Acting CEO during this transition period.

About Fiona Duncan:

With over 30 years of experience spanning artist management, event and tour management, publicity, and industry advisory roles, Fiona Duncan is a highly respected figure in the state, national, and international contemporary music industry.From her first roles in public radio and publicity, Fiona knew the Australian music industry would be her lifelong passion. As one of the longest-serving female music managers in the country, she has worked with some of Australia’s biggest and most influential performers, paving the way for a diverse and dynamic career.

One of Fiona’s proudest achievements has been her management of Spiderbait, guiding them from emerging artists to one of Australia’s most successful and enduring rock bands—achieving a number one ARIA chart position, a Hottest 100 number one, multiple ARIA awards, international tours, multi-platinum albums, headline festival performances, and sold-out theatre shows.

Beyond artist management, Fiona has played a pivotal role in music and arts development. Her work with the City of Greater Geelong included the delivery of major arts and music events such as the award winning Mountain to Mouth, Geelong After Dark, and the creation of Surround Sounds. She served as the Geelong Major Event Attraction Lead, delivering a new strategy, further strengthening the region’s cultural landscape.

In addition to her hands-on work in the industry, Fiona is deeply involved in advocacy and governance. She has previously served on the board Music Victoria and continues to serve as board member with the Association of Artist Managers (AAM), contributing her expertise to support and strengthen the music sector.

Fiona’s most recent role was National Live and Local Program Coordinator at the Live Music Office, continuing her commitment to fostering vibrant music communities and supporting the growth of live music across the country.
