Music Victoria is a not-for-profit body that represents the needs, interests and desires of the Victorian music sector. It advocates on behalf of the broader music community, pushing beyond any one individual's needs towards a thriving ecology that is reaching its full potential. It’s a conduit and connector—it may not be an expert in every matter, but it knows the right people to put you in touch with. It prides itself on being unbiased and accessible to all. It works behind the scenes to make things happen, keeping the music ecology in balance and holding the Victorian government to account on all things music related. At its core, it removes the barriers to success and is there to help to Victorian music sector, and all those who make it, be the best it can be.
As the peak body for the Victorian music industry, Music Victoria takes a localised approach, primarily working at a state level in its advocacy, at the local government level as need arises and at the federal level when there is capacity.
We are however, very aware of the global context in which we also live, work and play. Globalisation continues to have very real effect on our industry, and international success is a key part of many sustainable music industry careers. We also acknowledge the profound and devastating impact of global conflicts, environmental disasters and the changing climate, and other global events, and how it affects our Victorian community.
Music Victoria’s global position is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which underpin Music Victoria's strategic plan and operations, in advocating for peace, safety and equality across the world.
Our 2024-2026 strategic plans also call out a number of broader issues in society that are also found in music including (but not limited too) sexual harassment and bullying, exploitation, ageism, sexism, racism and ableism.
