In the lead up to the ?federal election?, our friends at APRA AMCOS have asked how much we love Australian music. No surprise that 98% of those surveyed agreed that the federal government should invest in local music, however a 72% of those surveyed confirmed that a commitment to a significant investment in Australian music would influence their vote in the federal election.

Huge congrats to Kate Ceberano who received an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) for “significant service to the performing arts, particularly music, as a singer, songwriter and entertainer, and to charitable organisations.”
"Ceberano, who has sold 1.5 million units in this country, was the first woman inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall Of Fame, Artistic Director for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival for three years, and Ambassador for National Breast Cancer Foundation. The 49-year-old is currently celebrating 35 years in the music industry with the release of the Anthology album."

Disappointing result from yesterdays debate:
"But after formal arts policies were launched by Labor and the Greens within the last week, Fifield was unable to articulate a concrete plan to “bring the arts and creative industries to the centre of the government’s innovation agenda”."

Music Victoria is sad to hear of the news of Shebeen’s imminent closure.
Shebeen co-founder Simon Griffiths said the closure was due to unavoidable problems arising from noise.
"Over the last twelve months it has become apparent that the wall of our band room is shared with the Melbourne East Police Station's sleeping quarters," said Griffiths. "As a result we have received significant pressure from the police and the VCGLR, and we received an infringement notice from the VCGLR which we have unsuccessfully appealed. After working with our landlord to look at all available options we are incredibly sad to announce that we will be closing Shebeen for business on June 25. We’re deeply sorry for all of the shows that were booked after this date and are working flat out with The Venue Collective to find new homes for all of these shows. We owe a huge thank you to everyone that has been a part of Shebeen to date, and would love to see you for one last non-profit song, banh mi or drink before we close our doors."
The owners were made aware by venue bookers the Venue Collective a few weeks ago about support for soundproofing venues to mitigate such problems through the Good Music Neighbours program (musicvictoria.com.au/gmn), and we encourage any other Victorian venues facing noise complaints to contact the Good Music Neighbours industry liaison at 9686 3411.
