CEO Report - June 2017

29 Jun 2017

Dear members and subscribers,

Earlier this year we asked our members and subscribers to answer some questions in our annual survey about the biggest issues and opportunities facing their careers and businesses.

The key findings were:

  • 45% of you spend up to $5000 on music (instruments, rehearsals, recording, tickets, buying recorded music. touring etc.) per year
  • 30% of you work more than 38 hours a week on music
  • 94% of you said you joined Music Victoria to support our advocacy work
  • The three top issues for our members and subscribers are musicians' income, funding for community radio and music in regional/rural areas
  • The three top workshop topics you're interested in are grants and funding, publicity and promotion and social media/networking
  • The biggest issue in hosting live music in venues is attendance.

Thank you for your feedback. It is important that we regularly consult with industry and ensure we focus our resources on the biggest issues. We will use this information to guide our advocacy and professional development strategies and programs.

In other MV news, we would also like to thank our outgoing Operations and Marketing Administrator, Chloe Turner, who is leaving Music Victoria after two and half years to take up a job with Creative Partnerships Australia. We wish her all the best in the next stage of her career.

See you at a gig soon,
MV crew.
