CEO Report - February 2017

1 Mar 2017

Dear members and subscribers,

Regional Victoria is a harvest of musical treasures.

A Victorian State Government initiative, delivered by Music Victoria with additional funding from Visit Victoria and some wonderful hospitality from regional councils, musicians and venues, the inaugural Victorian Music Crawl took 25 musicians, media, managers, booking agents and government on a three day road trip through south-western and northern Victoria.

The project aimed to shine a spotlight on the musical offerings of regional Victoria, and build connections to increase tours through regional Victoria, and provide more opportunities for regional artists to perform outside their home towns.

The group was treated to performances by regional acts including Freya-Josephine Hollick, Demi Louise, Second Sex, Chapel, CodaChroma Felicity Cripps Band and more, while checking out great venues such as Suttons House of Music, Karova Lounge, Theatre Royal and Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine, Bendigo’s Ulumbarra and Capitol theatres, record stores Rediscover Records and L’Espresso in Ballarat, and the picturesque, laidback all Australian line up at Echuca’s Riverboats Festival, where Victorian artists including Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Paul Kelly and Charlie Owen, James Reyne and Kylie Auldist provided the perfect soundtrack to lush river gum trees.

We look forward to shining a spotlight on other jewels of regional Victoria, including the Mornington Peninsula, Gippsland, Geelong, the Great Ocean Road and Warrnambool in the next 12 months.
