CEO Report - June 2016

30 Jun 2016

Dear members and subscribers,

Over the last 12 months there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes building a case for more support for contemporary music from the Federal Government.
The Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN, chaired by MV's CEO Patrick Donovan) released a statement calling on the parties to create a new $5 million Contemporary Music Fund. This Fund would support:

  • increased export opportunities for artist;
  • audience development;
  • education programs that encourage greater involvement in both live and recorded music;
  • regional touring; and
  • and the funding of Music Australia and AMIN to continue their work for the industry.

Led by Music Australia, the music industry recently came together to develop the National Contemporary Music Plan, which has been presented to all major parties.
Music Australia has also called on the parties to prioritise music education, ensuring that music education is available to all students from prep to year 8.
Thoughtfully, the legends over at Tone Deaf posted a 'Music Lovers Guide to the Federal Election', detailing what each major party  has promised for contemporary music. Make sure you give it a read before voting this weekend (2 Jul 2016).
You can also show your support for the arts by signing the online petitions at: Art Changes Lives / I Stand With The Arts / Keep Community Radio

See you in the moshpit - Paddy, Nick and Chloe
