Our work with Confidence
In late 2016 Music Victoria ran a panel for Darebin Music Feast titled 'You Can't Be What You Can't See: Confidence and public speaking in the music industry'.
You Can’t Be What You Can’t See. Confidence is one of the main factors behind the lack of diversity and creative output within many areas of the music community.
Inspired by Music Victoria’s women’s music industry advisory panel and a first for Darebin Music Feast, Music Victoria has put together a stellar panel featuring heavyweights within contemporary music and media to unpack and address confidence issues. In an open and candid environment, the panel will tell stories of pathways to success and provide insights into gaining confidence, being an ace public speaker and ‘cutting through’. You Can’t Be What You Can’t See is a rare opportunity to gain insights and tips of the trade from those who know.
Moderated by Jacinta Parsons (Double J, Triple R - 3RRR 102.7FM) and featuring Namila Benson (ABC), Caroline Kennedy (Academic, Caroline No) and Karina Utomo (High Tension). The discussion hopes to inspire creative people to look within – to sharpen their pitch, take a step into the spotlight and realise their potential.
To prepare audience members for this panel Music Victoria consulted with the wider music industry to create a one page print out of confidence tips. We encourage people to print this, post it around the office, put it on the fridge and read it as a constant reminder for motivation.
